Executed all aspects of dendrochronology research aimed at constructing a paleoclimatic record of low frequency drought/precipitation cycles along the western coast of Central America. • Employed COFECHA, MATLAB and ARSTAN software to build a master chronology with an interseries correlation of 0.402 and a mean sensitivity of 0.295 dating back to before 1700 A.D.• Nominated, as one of two international students, to participate in the first Central American Dendroecological Field Week (an intensive field and laboratory training and collaboration among scientists in the Americas) in La Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, Guatemala. • Mentored 17 undergraduate students on principles, tools, and techniques of dendrochronology research.

Led a team of students and local community members on an expedition to collect tree core samples from a high elevation stand of Abies guatemalensis within the Samalá Watershed. Interviewed coffee farmers who managed fincas (farms) within the watershed on how they observed, firsthand the effects of climate change and their perception of how climate change would continue to impact their livelihood. • Identified stands of high elevation conifers suitable for sampling using GIS software and marked sample sites with handheld GPS.• Supervised collection of more than 100 samples from 31 trees.
