As a little girl, my parents relied on resources like the food bank to put meals on the table for me and my siblings. Now, as a college student, I frequently serve at the food bank to give back to a resource that has served me. Living in a food desert within Atlanta has exposed me to some of the ways lack of access to food can impact people. As such, food insecurity has become one of my deepest passions.

The mission of Urban Recipe to uplift the community and provide nutritious resources while maintaining the dignity of community members has always resonated with me. Learning about the awesome ways they are addressing food insecurity in my first year at Spelman inspired me to organize community service trips for other students in my current role as Community Service chair for the Honors Program. Students learn so much about the ways food insecurity in our community and are able to have a direct impact on people in need.
