Led and managed two clinical research teams focused on: 1) using non-invasive brain stimulation to improve and maintain cognition in people with dementia, and 2) investigating how emotion processing changes due to stroke and during stroke recovery.• Work resulted in 7 conference presentations and 10 peer-reviewed scientific article publications with novel clinical recommendations about understudied stroke-induced deficits using complex statistical analyses including linear mixed effects modeling, and correlation testing in behavioral and neuroimaging data.• Conveying complex medical information to many diverse audiences (researchers, physicians, students, patients, and patient families)

Established and led cutting edge interdisciplinary research program to understand the neurological basis of communication and comprehension. This research program has three core lines of inquiry: Literacy & Readability (how digital font features affect user reading experience); Clinical Research for language/cognitive deficits in stroke and dementia; and Brain-behavior Relationships (neurological underpinnings of communication).• Founded research lab resulting in training 20+ student researchers, obtaining $90,000+ in small grants to drive research program development. Findings were published in 15+ peer-reviewed scientific journals• Provided actionable clinical recommendations about post-stroke cognitive recovery using applied regression, mixed effects linear regression, and permutation testing of behavioral and biometric data.• Data Collection - collected quantitative and qualitative data including behavioral measures (surveys, eye-tracking, observations), and neurological measures (EEG, MRI)• Data Management - created and organized customized RedCap database and developed processes for precise data management by all lab members• Data Visualization - analyzed and visualized complex data using R statistical software (regression analyses, cluster analyses, ANOVA, t-tests, etc.)

• Managed lab team to complete 4 studies with 10 junior researchers resulting in 4 peer-reviewed scientific publications investigating psycholinguistics in patients with stroke.• Provided clinical recommendations for language deficits following stroke using analysis of survey, eye-tracking, and EEG (brain wave measure) dataAcquired experience as a Student Speech Language Clinician:• Worked with a wide variety of patients with developmental and acquired language disorders• Conducted speech and language evaluations using a broad spectrum of standardized, criterion-referenced, and dynamic assessment measures for adult and pediatric clients to determine the presence, nature, and severity of disorders• Formulated short- and long-term treatment goals using evidence-based approaches for each client• Organized and led individual and group-based therapy sessions in accordance with client’s individual goals and treatment plan• Educated patients and family members regarding the nature of the disorder and techniques they could use to facilitate and enhance treatment outcomes
