Ever since I brought home my first stray cat I knew I wanted to work with animals. I grew up surrounded by animals: from my SPCA rescue cats and dogs to turtles, hamsters, hermit crabs, and betta fish. As a child when I wasn't around my pets I was glued to the TV screen watching Animal Planet and pouring over any educational book about animals I could get my hands on. When I got to Bucknell, I gained experience with more exotic animals. I handled and conducted research with rats as part of my Into Biology class. As part of a team, I wrote a student paper and created a poster that won best in my section at the culminating symposium. I would also go on to in one of my classes to work with Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, designing a variety of experiments including classical conditioning. Other semesters took me to the Mostly Mutts Rescue where I helped train a dog and made a promotional video to help them get adopted. Later, I would work with non-human primates. In my research methods class, I spent most of a semester working and learning with Capuchins and then conducting my experiment with Squirrel Monkeys. I joined research at the Primate Lab and began working with the Capuchins on a Computerized Judgement Bias Task.I've also worked with Sherman and Camera traps at the Bucknell Natural Area, as well as making an animal specimen in my Mammalogy course. Along with the field experiences in class, I've planned, prepared, and led outdoor adventure trips with my college outing club as a trip leader. This includes both day paddling trips, overnight camping trips, and a multiday pre-orientation for incoming first-years.
