The crux of the matter is to combine in a framework the ability to identify and quantify faults… Show more As a researcher and doctoral student (with a CNPq scholarship and advised by Prof. Dr. Gilberto Francisco Martha de Souza), the main objective of my work was to develop a hybrid method for detecting and identifying faults in rotating machines. The proposed method is based on the dynamic response of these pieces of equipment and the integration of model-based and data-based techniques. The crux of the matter is to combine in a framework the ability to identify and quantify faults, characteristic of model-based methods, with the ability to detect real-time variations in the behavior of a system, inherent to data-based methods. The needs imposed by Industry 4.0 for the maintenance of rotating machines and the expected evolution of monitoring and diagnosis systems due to the adoption of Integrated Health Management methodologies shortly were the main driving factors for the development of the Ph.D. dissertation. The results of this development are expected to be seen primarily in strategic sectors such as power generation and the petrochemical industry. Show less

The system installation projects ranged from the positioning of transducers and sensors in the monitored equipment to the architecture of the data network and installation of the server with the embedded software. As a researcher at CEPEL, I worked in the area of monitoring, diagnosis, and prognosis of machines and equipment of greater relevance in large installations in the electricity sector. I was responsible for the management of Research and Development (R&D) projects, coordinated teams focused on the development of maintenance tools, and developed software dedicated to monitoring equipment (SOMA Lite) applied to the Angra I and Angra II Nuclear Power Plants (Electronuclear), Paulo Afonso IV Hydroelectric Power Plant (Chesf), and Tijuco Preto Substation (Furnas). I was also responsible for the development and implementation of modules for calculating the remaining useful life of boilers and thermal machines, applied at the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Power Plant (ENGIE). I participated in the development of methodologies and tools for mechanical maintenance and was able to act directly in the instrumentation of equipment in the field and from laboratory tests to equipment evaluation.
