Profile bio

About Madeleine Beihl

I knew at a young age that I wanted to work in the field of public history. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s degree in Early American History, I interned at the Warner House Association (where I would later serve on the Board of Governors), and Old Sturbridge Village. I joined the Education Department at Strawbery Banke Museum in 2014, where I became the coordinator of the historical roleplaying program and the team’s primary researcher. Late in 2021, I left Strawbery Banke to pursue a Master’s degree in US History, but returned to museum work as a seasonal guide at Historic New England's John Langdon House in the summer of 2022. More recently, I accepted a position as Curator and Collections Manager at the American Independence Museum, where I manage interpretive content and the visitor experience. Though I specialize in and predominantly focus on early New England history in my work, my research interests include the Progressive Era, 20th century social reform movements, the history of medicine, and the Jewish-American experience. As an educator in the non-profit field, my range of experiences include creating engaging museum programs and exhibits, designing and directing summer camps, producing outreach programs for life-long learners, community organizing and substitute teaching. My programs address issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in both content and context in order to provide a holistic understanding of history. I am passionate about creating brave spaces for learners, where open dialogue is encouraged and critical thinking is key.
