Hello! My name is Maddie, I am currently an Associate Interior Designer at Striking Remodels. I grew up in Evergreen, Colorado loving mountains, warm summers, snowy winters, and constantly rearranging my bedroom!I began my career studying Graphic Design at Colorado State University and found a broader love for the arts and making. I earned a BFA with concentrations in Graphic Design and Fiber Art. I loved both concentrations, but Graphic Design was my ticket to the kind of job I wanted. I freelanced on and off for several years and found just how different my dreams for my career were from the reality of the jobs and projects I could find. It was time to pivot.I’ve always enjoyed treasure hunting in thrift shops and antique stores. By thrifting I had quickly amassed an extensive wardrobe and fully furnished my husband and I’s home. Things were beginning to burst at the seams with my many finds and projects to fix up. So, Modstalgic was born… Mostly because my husband was no longer interested in climbing over my upholstery projects to get to the kitchen in the morning (I never minded)! I began to refurbish and resell my finds from our small garage and quickly had much more inventory than the space could handle. Over the next year I rented a workshop/warehouse, began selling through an antique mall in Denver, and kept collecting unique furniture and home goods that needed a refresh. This work uncovered a love of Interior Design that I had always seen as a hobby, not a viable career path. In the Fall of 2021 I began Arapahoe Community College's Interior Design program. I have always loved to create, and building interiors that help people love and feel comfortable in their spaces brings me joy. I am passionate about designing spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. A home should reflect the lifestyle that it's inhabitants aspire to live while also incorporating their tastes and stylistic preferences. I'm excited to be taking the next step in my career towards pursuing a position in full service luxury Interior Design. Let's connect if you think we would be a great fit for one another!

I also helped to reorganize the store creating displays, furniture vignettes, and more efficient wayfinding. I worked the sales floor greeting customers and clients and creating conversations that lead to sales by asking about personal style, needs in their homes, and specific types of furniture they were searching for. We often offered to make custom alterations to pieces that were close to their needs but didn’t quite meet them. I also helped train and manage three other employees providing a daily list of prioritized tasks, troubleshooting challenging projects, and supporting the team in closing sales or providing information on a certain piece of furniture or designer. I also regularly photographed inventory for social media posts, assisted with purchasing inventory, delivered completed projects to clients, created branded signage for the store, and went on site visits with the store owner who is an architect and often offered to come to customer’s homes to help them with interior design to increase furniture sales. The Council’s goal is to improve the culture and employee experience of the multiple restaurants and businesses under the SavCo umbrella. I acted as the host liaison for Sava’s Restaurant. This group of employees met monthly with each other, our people team (HR) and Sava Farah the owner and CEO of SavCo. During my time in these meetings we collaborated and brainstormed to create action plans for improving the workplace and breaking down barriers between different teams in the restaurants. We became influencers of positivity, open and direct communication, and encouragement in the work place. We learned how to lead in mediating conflict empathetically and were instrumental in changing the way all of SavCo communicates with each other. One of our most important projects was to redesign a employee survey to gage the various restaurant’s pain points so that we could tackle specific areas of opportunity for improvement. We were also able to collect data that helped us see where one restaurant was succeeding in an area more so than another restaurant so that we could discover the best ways to improve. We spoke in depth about how to create an environment of inclusivity and safety for all gender identities, races, religions, and sexual orientations. The plans we implemented and dialogue we created led to a noticeable improvement in the culture of the restaurants and the way staff intentionally related to one another. My participation in this program lead to my involvement in another meeting with SavCo's people team, Sava Farah, and the marketing team to create a company manifesto. I acted as the voice of someone on the ground in one of the restaurants as we endeavored to capture everything about SavCo that was of big picture importance in a brief paragraph. It was an excellent creative exercise and experience. Show less -

Hosting in the 300 seat restaurant required regular problem solving under pressure, intense multi tasking, and a poised and calm guest-facing demeanor. I regularly directed a host team of 1-3 people on a shift while "running the book" of the restaurant. This means that I managed the restaurant's reservations while working in guests on the waitlist and paying close attention to special notes and requests. The job often required navigating difficult situations with with hospitality and professionalism. It was also important that I efficiently used my team of support hosts to keep me up to date, lead guests to their tables, check in arriving guests, and maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant. The high volume and popularity of Sava's Restaurant made the host position an absolutely essential and important team in the restaurant. Our successes or failures at a team could heavily affect the restaurant's revenue, the amount of money the server's received for their service, and the overall experiences of our guests. As a team we had our pulse on the flow of the restaurant and the ability to appropriately control that flow. This meant that proper training and leadership was essential. The team I lead varied from 8-12 hosts depending on the season. I was responsible for coaching my team towards success in their roles. I created a strong structure of onboarding training materials, continuing education materials, and standard operating procedures that both increased efficiency and lead to a stronger feeling of confidence and ownership among the host team. I lead meetings, taught and trained new and existing hosts, planned team building and educational outings and experiences, and upheld the restaurant’s high standards of hustle, hospitality, and mindful business consistently and often under pressure.
