My name is Madelyn McConnell and I’m a student, artist and fashion designer currently based in Kent, Ohio! In my early life I was engrossed in reading fiction, creating art and sewing garments. I focused my early education on the fine arts, specifically drawing, painting and multimedia.Throughout high school, my work was displayed in 5 different exhibitions, including the 2019 M(ART)in Unites show at the King Arts Complex. I graduated with the highest dedicated course hours toward visual arts in my year, and was a sustaining member of The National Art Honors Society.After graduation, I spent my summer interning at Terra Gallery as a local artist where I offered commissioned work, taught classes, and offered painting demonstrations at the 2019 Parade of Homes. The classes I developed and taught over the course of that summer included Figure Drawing, Figure Painting and Intro to Ceramics.After studying fine arts for a year at Savannah College of Art and Design, I chose to transfer to Kent State University to pursue fashion design. I’m currently pursuing my undergraduate BFA in Fashion Design, as well as minors in drawing and creative writing. This past November, I was awarded first prize in fiction for Kent State University’s Creative Writing Contest. My short horror piece Virginia Has a Fly Problem is listed below.
