STA Travel and Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef partnered up to provide my social media internship in Australia. STA Travel provided the logistical aspects of my internship in exchange for travel content that I filmed and photographed throughout the internship. My content will be used as part of STA Travel's upcoming campaigns, including their 'Challenge yourself in Queensland' campaign. I am using this experience of working with STA Travel and applying it to my own personal website and social media channels as a social media influencer.

Advertised by STA Travel, I was accepted out of 840 applicants for an all-expenses-paid internship with a marine conservation organisation in Australia. I spent six weeks with this organisation, travelling up and down the Great Barrier reef learning about the environmental impact we are having on the reef. As an ambassador, it was my responsibility to document my travels and encounters via social media, both for Citizens GBR and STA Travel. I was present predominantly on Instagram and Facebook, utilising their Story features. I was also able to document my experience through photography and videography, making several short videos for their socials. I gained insight within conservation methods such as photo identification research, local government and organisation sponsorships and community education via social media and campaigns. I worked with many organisations, biologists and volunteers so I have learned from people from all walks of life. Working for non-profit organisations is challenging, however, I believe my outgoing personality and ambition combined with my diverse digital marketing skills allows me to communicate and convert effectively within audience or organisation relationships.During my time with Citizens, I was able to generate more than 100 leads by signing up tourists and locals via email marketing, allowing people to have a personal profile with CGBR, allowing them to contribute to citizen science and sustainability projects in the future.

During my university semester, I applied for an internship with Archipelagos as part of my course’s work experience unit. For five weeks, I was a media intern at the institute, specialising in photography and social media marketing.I worked closely with other teams at the institute, including the terrestrial and marine mammal team. I assisted with marine mammal photo identification, taking photos and videos to document projects and local activities, assisting with investigations into illegal animal trafficking. I also contributed towards the development of a mobile application to monitor endangered fish species for consumers in the Aegean sea. I was able to meet volunteers from all over the world, thus creating unique communication and team-building skills while learning from other cultures.My volunteering experience has given me invaluable knowledge of how non-profit organisations engage with their audiences and the techniques they use to change the behaviour and thinking of their audience. I have found that user-generated content is a great way to get effective conversions as well as increasing traffic online through sharable content. Using this type of content was effective on my internships as it makes audiences feel part of the cause and allows them to contribute to conservation directly.
