- Site analysis and planning of 'Cell Sites' for primary PCS clients (Nextel, Sprint, Cingular & Verizon).- Preparation and submission of Building Permit applications for proposed Cell Sites.- Interior redesign / remodeling of new Clark Nexsen Branch office in Alexandria; Obtained requisite permits and monitored project implementation.

Reviewed designs proposals submitted by consultants. Submitted recommendations to the Trust’s Board, for the appointment of consultants. Monitored construct'n & design dev'ment processes of int'l construction firms & local consultants engaged by the Trust to construct multi-million dollar commercial projects. Ranging from high-rise speculative office dev'ments & mixed-use commercial dev'ments, industrial parks, commercial units, housing projects & infrastructure projects to health clinics. Contractors at the time included contractors such as Taysec, Energoprojekt, Barbisotti & Sons and Vector-Morrison Ltd. Inspected project sites & reviewed cost plans w/ quantity surveyors to ensure projects were kept within budget. Inspections enabled us ensure compliance with specs & design standards, bldg. regs. I participated in the procurement processes for some aspects of projects, (furnishing of student hostels for five college campuses). Liaised with the Trust’s Maint. Dept to renovate various properties owned by the Trust, or let to tenants. Projects included senior staff housing, HQ bldg maintenance programs & refurbishment of various rental properties. My team developed arch. designs (using AutoCAD) for a projects for the Trust. These include the dev'ment of 2 Prototype designs for District Offices to be constructed nationwide. Samples of each design have since been constructed. Other designs carried out include a community clinic constructed at the Sakumono Housing Estate, one of the Trust’s major worker’s projects located between Accra and Tema. A further responsibility of importance was the systematic testing and commissioning of key equipment in our projects at completion and commissioning. Warranties for equipment, user manuals and spec. information was inspected and handed over to our Maintenance Dept to ensure the long-term performance of the facilities.

Assisted clients define their briefs at the start of the design process and undertook relevant research to understand the terms and parameters governing the scheme. Worked with the principals to develop design concepts and led a team of entry level architects and technicians to produce the necessary documentation for each project. As projects were underway, we conducted site meetings with project teams to monitor contractor’s progress and present reports to clients as required. Successfully managed various residential, commercial and institutional projects from inception stage through design development, construction / contract management to completion and commissioning. Notable projects undertaken during this period include; - Refurbishment of the residence of the Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana.- Remodeling of new offices for Star Assurance Company, Kokomlemle, Accra.- Development of Regional Offices for the Ghana National Association of Teachers.- Trust Towers, speculative, 9-story office complex for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) – (participated in early construction stage as well as some design modifications during construction phase).- Ridge Towers – speculative 14-story office complex for SSNIT (participated in late design stage and early construction stage only).- Agricultural Development Bank Branch Office, Gulf House, Accra.- Proposed Head Office for Agricultural Development Bank (Scheme only for 14-story office block).

The period with this firm afforded me a great opportunity to undertake my internship and obtain my professional qualification in the UK. Working directly under a senior partner, I had the opportunity to assist with various aspects of design and detailing, contract administration, site inspections and applications for planning / building regulations approvals. Projects of interest I participated in over this period include the following; - Queen Victoria Street Court Building, London – development of new Magistrates Court involving change of use and remodeling of a Victorian building (estimated project value UKP 4.7million.- 52 Kingston Road, New Malden - Laing Retirement Homes – development of 30 new flats as part of a ‘Sheltered Housing Project’ (i.e., retirement homes).- New Woolworth Store, Crystal Palace, Upper Norwood – Development of new store to replace demolished, fire damaged old store – project undertaken in association with M/s R. Mansell Ltd. London – estimated project value (1990) UKP 1.5 million.- St. Albans Church Site, Teddington – Development of 44 new flats as a sheltered housing / retirement homes facility – estimated value (1991) UKP 1.5 million.- Southampton Centre for Deep Sea Oceanography (Southampton Quays) – New laboratories, teaching facilities, offices, library, stores, archives and workshops – estimated value (1991) UKP 30 million.
