I am passionate about engaging in systems change efforts through the development of innovative solutions. This includes connecting diverse networks of individuals and organizations, making space for effective engagement between partners, and providing effective resources to the people who need them most. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2004. Following this I worked in the field of child welfare focusing on foster and adoptive home licensing, coordination of placements for children in foster care, provided the PRIDE foster parent training, and specialized in training foster parents on transracial parenting. In 2008, I returned to the University of Washington to pursue a Masters in Social Work. While pursuing my MSW, I co-founded the University of Washington Champions Program, a recruitment and retention program for students from foster care, in 2010. Additionally, I held internships focused on working with youth and adults managing addictions and post-traumatic stress. Through these internships I received training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Parent Child Interaction Therapy. I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Washington in 2011. I worked as Director of Outreach and Training for the Center for Fostering Success at Western Michigan University for 6 years developing and directing the Fostering Success Michigan statewide initiative and started the Fostering Academic Achievement Nationwide network in 2016. In July 2018, I began working as a consultant, serving as a Site Liaison Consultant for the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative and providing education and child welfare consultation nationally. I am is the owner of Maddy Day, LLC & Associates, a consulting firm focused on systems reform (https://www.maddyday.com/) and serves as Chair of the Kalamazoo DHHS Board, Vice President of the Michigan Education Trust Board, a Member and Former Chair for the Michigan College Access Network Board of Directors, and Co-Leads the Fostering Academic Achievement Nationwide network. A child welfare and education expert, I am a Results Count Advanced Practitioner who applies a race equity lens to all her work. I am currently working towards becoming an Associate Diversity Coach through the Coach Diversity Institute.
