- Daily interactions with doctors, nurses, PA’s, NP’s, and other providers to ensure best possible outcomes for patients, including: Requesting labs on behalf of the patient, answering provider questions regarding what results are expected for a specific test, fine-tuning expected dates & times for labs to be drawn, and communication about patient status, limitations, & needs.- Daily verification testing of lab equipment, including: Temperature monitoring of ambient, refrigerated, & frozen specimen areas, eye-wash station maintenance, confirming centrifuges are set at correct RPMs and being spun for intended amount of time, ensuring sharps boxes are not more than 3/4 full, and all pour-over tubes, pipettes, PPE, & required cleaning solutions are at a designated, well-known location.- Weekly supplies ordering using Workday to keep lab functioning optimally. - Awareness of order of draw to safeguard against contamination.- Experience working with pediatric patients, including foot draws and heel sticks. Scheduled shifts at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital exposed me to premature infant venipunctures, blood draws on children with special needs and abilities, and exposed me to the calm urgency needed for extremely time-sensitive tests. I utilize these skills with pediatric patients in my current outpatient lab setting.- Utilization of experience from multiple people-centered occupations to regularly improve/adjust the quality of my patient care.- Constant learning and growth regarding how, why, and when certain tests are performed. - Making continuous improvement suggestions have been constant throughout my employment and have resulted in positive outcomes for both employees and patients.

If a reading were to come back out of range, I would troubleshoot and follow step-by-step protocol to correct the issue.- Cleaned lab equipment following protocol after each use.- Wore proper PPE while working around blood or other OPIM substances.- Demonstrated proper aseptic technique before performing venipunctures, and monitored various venous pressures throughout plasmapheresis.- Monitored Aurora Plasmapheresis devices and ensured proper numerics (e.g., venous pressure during collection cycle, venous pressure during blood return, assuring saline and anticoagulant were returning to the donor at optimal speed throughout plasmapheresis, etc.)- Monitored donors and cared for any adverse reactions.- Interacted with donors on a person-to-person basis, ensured their comfortability, explained in detail each step I was going to take, enjoyed small talk with returning donors, and expressed gratitude to each donor for their time.
Child Care Staff
Worked with children, ages 3 months - 4 years old. Duties varied based on the age of children I was assigned to that day (e.g., changing diapers, bottle feeding/serving solid foods, allergy exposure prevention, play time, walks outside, field trips, nap time, singing, reading books, teaching basic letters and numbers, etc.).
Cna
Performed the duties of a CNA with a variety of patients and conditions. I made home visits to different clients that changed throughout the months working there; some clients I had more than others. I was trained to use an in-line catheter and was in close contact with Hospice regarding my clients. Some of my clients had dementia, Alzheimer's, or were otherwise immobile (i.e., osteoporosis, old age). I feel my skills were further sharpened when I began using the techniques I learned in training, such as hygiene, assistance with using the restroom, gait belts, bed pan/portable urinal usage, changing bedding (with or without client occupying the bed), and a variety of other tasks.Communication became of utmost importance in this role. Every individual I cared for was different, which meant adjusting and adapting to the needs of my patients on a case-by-case basis. It was a true privilege to be able to provide the dignity, kindness, and empathy each of my clients deserved.
