- Work with the farm research team and collaborators to support and coordinate the short and long-term research programs at Philo Ridge Farm- Follow research protocols and methods across field trials to address questions around soil health, pasture productivity, biodiversity, climate change, and ecosystem services.- Research coordinator for NRCS Conservation Innovation (CIG) grant "Managing Healthy Pasture for Healthy Farms and Soils Across Vermont". Philo Ridge Farm is one of the three partners managing this project, and I help to coordinate all aspects of it.

- Conduct microbiological testing for human pathogens on environmental samples - including drinking water, wastewater, biosolids, and sediments- Follow CDC protocols for Legionella testing of water and swab samples - including filtration, isolation, colony counts, and molecular (PCR) confirmation- Follow established protocols to meet the quality assurance standards of the EPA, CDC, and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP)

- Diagnose fungal, bacterial, and viral plant pathogens with standard and molecular techniques for clients of the UNH Plant Diagnostic lab- Communicate with extension agents and growers about emerging pests, diseases, and evolving Integrated Pest Management strategies.- Present at outreach events for Master Gardeners, school groups, and undergraduate students.- Active member of the National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) and American Phytopathological Society- Utilize the NPDN-PDIS sample input and management system to prepare reports and send to clients- Coordinate with state and federal regulatory agencies as needed for the USDA-APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) program - which includes assisting the state plant regulatory officials with pathogen identification when they request assistance.- Supervise the first-ever Integrated Pest Management Intern this summer: training the intern on how to work in the diagnostic lab, coordinate intern’s visits with other field specialists, and help the intern develop a final project by the end of the summer.- Prepare and record the NH Fruit Pest Hotline/Fruit IPM Reports weekly from April – October- Manage the Plant Diagnostic Lab budget, ordering, and general lab upkeep.

- Visiting scientist in the UMaine Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab for 2 months to prepare for the UNH lab finally opening up!- Trained with Dr. Alicyn Smart, the director of the UMaine Lab, on how to run a diagnostic lab - preparing me for a manager-level role in the UNH lab as opposed to a technician-level role.- Assisted with diagnosing samples sent to the UMaine Lab from New Hampshire and Maine growers

Microbiology M.S. Thesis: Microbiomes and Disease Suppressiveness of Soil from Managed and Abandoned Orchards in New HampshirePI: Dr. Anissa PoleatewichDepartment of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences** Also Lead Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Microbiology and Pathogenic Microbiology Labs (20 hrs/week)

- Based in the Plant Pathology Lab, but was also part time in Sustainable Agriculture Lab during the growing season- supervised and trained undergraduate students & new graduate students- provided project support to graduate and undergraduate students, including data collection, project set up and project break down- general lab upkeep - autoclaving biohazardous waste, media making, subculturing & maintaining cultures of permitted and non-permitted organisms- harvesting and recording yield data for several crops- scouting for pests and beneficial insects- Collected and processed soil samples for soil microbiome studies, preformed microbial DNA extractions, and developed a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) protocol to produce high quality DNA for sequencing and further analysis

- Assist customers with selecting vegetables and herbs- Offer advice on toubleshooting common garden problems (disease, soil quality, design)- stock shelves and keep plants appropriately watered- Scout for diseases and pests in the merchandise

- Worked with Botanist/Range Conservationist at Bureau of Land Management office in Arcata, CA- Monitored endangered, rare, and native coastal dune species and habitats for frequency and density data- Participated in invasive weed eradication efforts including pre and post site monitoring and work crew supervision- Monitored grazing allotments for lease compliance and generated rangeland health assessments - Made seed collections of native seeds for the BLM Seeds of Success Program intended for domestic storage and future restoration use- Prepared research and vegetative collection permits for activities on public land

- Collected data on tree growth, mortality, health, forest structure, and understory vegetation structure and composition to complete Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program plots with crews from U.S. Forest Service- Trained to use Mobile Integrated Data Acquisition System (MIDAS) using the Juniper Systems Allegro data recorder- Position was based in Allenstown, NH but required week-long travel to new towns in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts to access field sites

- Taught classes involving forestry, ecology, geology, and aquatic studies.- Students consisted of middle and high school students from all across Alabama- Updated class materials and adjusted lesson plans based on individual school requirements and requests

- Measured phenotypic traits such as growth, bud set, and bud flush throughout the course of the growing season in a common garden of Balsam Poplar trees - Recorded occurrence of Melamspora rust on balsam poplar following established protocol - Participated in long term survey of forest trees: located and measured transects at different elevations, identified trees in those transects, recorded DBH values, and assessed tree health.- Collected red spruce and balsam poplar samples in locations that often required hiking in rough terrain and the use of a GPS while adhering to strict collection protocols - Performed general lab upkeep – data organization, sample processing, cleaning, re-ordering supplies etc.- Assisted in DNA extractions and buffer preparations
