Recent University of St. Thomas graduate with a B.A. in Journalism and Spanish Linguistics. My experience with both disciplines goes beyond my college years. I have studied Spanish since age 10 and I was involved in the student newspaper, The Spartan Speaks, for all four years of my high school career. With The Speaks, I served as copy editor, Photo/Video Manager, and performed various Editor-in-Chief duties as needed. After graduating in 2020, amidst the pandemic, I still made the most of my first year of college and immersed myself in campus life at St. Thomas. In my freshman year, I joined the St. Thomas student-run news organization Tommie Media (now The Crest) and continued my career in student journalism while also completing journalism courses. In the fall of 2021 I studied abroad in Rome, Italy where I experienced culturally enriching experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. After my semester abroad, I returned to Tommie Media and continued my work as a photographer. I then took a year off from Tommie Media to focus on my studies, but soon returned for my senior year and served as Assignment Editor until graduation. Now, since graduating from St. Thomas, I have accepted my first job in the journalism industry as a general assignment reporter with The Storm Lake Times Pilot in Storm Lake, Iowa. This is a very exciting opportunity as I will be able to use both my journalism and Spanish background to bring important stories to the diverse community of Storm Lake.
