Social Work to me is about empowering and supporting individuals to live the life they choose to lead. I have chosen this as my career path as I am passionate about supporting marginalized groups and individuals who experience hardship and disadvantage. My student placement experiences at One Door Mental Health and DCJ Housing have given me a variety of experiences that reflect my diligence to support those in need. In particular, my experience at DCJ Housing was a catalyst in affirming why I have chosen social work as a career path. During this placement I have learned to understand that issues such as homelessness do not occur in a vacuum. The most vulnerable members of our community need a holistic approach to ensure they are supported. My field education experience at One Door Mental Health exemplifies my strong ability to support those living with psychosocial disabilities. I am very passionate about reducing the stigma around mental illness, and have a strong sense of empathy when working with clients. My background in hospitality has given me many transferable skills in relation to adapting well in a fast paced environment and prioritizing tasks to optimize efficiency. I am an eager learner and am passionate about supporting and uplifting others.
