I have always been interested in the environment. When I was younger I spent a lot of time outdoors. My passion for the outdoors comes from my love of discovery and learning. I love to observe things in nature, study how they function, and relate to the rest of their ecosystem. I enjoy spreading my knowledge and passion of the environment to others. The more I learn about the environment, the more I want to teach about it.I currently attend The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) as a senior in Environmental studies, with a focus in policy, planning, and law. I am increasingly interested in invasive species management and education. Plenty of natural areas are at risk from invasive species, my goal is to protect these natural areas, preserve native biodiversity, and to restore previously invaded areas to their natural state. Working with SUNY Research Foundation as an environmental educator and boat steward launched my skills and knowledge into action. In this job I spoke to many different groups of people about invasive species and topics surrounding them. I had the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of the general knowledge a community had about such issues. From there I developed ways to explain the issues from a perspective that can be understood and accepted by the public.In the future, I would like to incorporate my creative skills into my work in public education. I would like to broaden environmental knowledge in the community, encourage citizen science work as well as environmental stewardship.
