I am a current senior with a strong desire to contribute to the field of music education by working to create an environment that not only encourages strong musicianship skills, but transferrable social and personal skills for students to carry throughout their lives as strong members of society. My pedagogy contains focus on student-centered and social-emotional learning, as well as fostering a safe and welcoming learning environment. I encourage a diverse range of student experiences, skill levels, and diversity of repertoire and varied musical exposure within my classroom. In connection to diversity, I place high significance on DEI in the context of the creative world for the development of well rounded individuals and musicians. I am a strong advocate for the importance of music’s place in the school curriculum in the ways it aids individuals developmentally and is essential for adolescent development physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. For my honors project, I am seeking to further my knowledge of the effects of music by studying the connection between music and cognitive development from childhood and adolescence to older adults, with a focus on behavior, physical, and cognitive disabilities. During my time at Miami University, I have sought to further involve myself in higher education while finding ways to serve the students and community around me. I have had the pleasure to serve as a Summer Scholars student counselor, Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) for the incoming class of 2028, and as an Undergraduate Associate for first year students during their college transition in hopes to further my own personal goals and development as an educator.I have had a wide range of personal and ensemble-based experiences including choral ensembles, a cappella ensembles, competitive vocal performance, leading ensembles as a student conductor, and composing a cappella and choral arrangements.I am eager to contribute to the field of music education and look forward to connecting with like-minded professionals while exploring opportunities to apply my knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm to drive meaningful change.
