About Madeline Gee
As an early career marine conservationist, I am enthusiastic about creating healthy oceans, through habitat protection and restoration. I have a strong background in intertidal fieldwork; including turf transplantation for intertidal seagrass restoration with growth and photosynthesis measurements to document transplant health and success, and sedimentary and macroinfaunal analysis to record ecosystem benefits. I have also researched saltmarsh resilience to sea level rise, with Differential-GPS site surveys, QGIS site mapping and plant sampling for Instant Ocean® flooding experiments. I also have laboratory experience, including cell and C. elegans culture, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, DNA extraction and PCR.Without the engagement of local communities and concern of society as a whole, however, conservation projects cannot triumph. As Assistant Programme Manager with GVI, Greece, I was responsible for the engagement, training and wellbeing of our volunteers, and during my Internship with A Rocha, Ghana, I was fortunate to participate in a variety of community outreach activities, including presentations to traditional community leaders, and workshops with school children.I am driven to put my strong scientific background and communication skills to use in promoting a holistic approach to seascape restoration across a diversity of stakeholders.
