My role is to make things make sense and to maximize impact. I step in during the early phases to create a unique and compelling narrative about otherwise dense and complex topics, bolstered with credible and reliable sources. My editing work has allowed me to build solid professional relationships with clients and other collaborators, from United Nations advisors to renowned artists such as Julian Schnabel and Anselm Kiefer.I have taken a key role as an editor and research consultant for five books, four dissertations, two art exhibitions, and five articles across the fields of accounting, business management, law, human rights reform, psychology, geopolitics, and philosophy. This requires deep analytical, multi-disciplinary problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as strong writing skills to communicate nuanced and detailed ideas. I worked as a technician in the Parent Lab studying how eating and memory interact, particularly within Alzheimer's Disease. I performed numerous highly complex research techniques to collect data on cognition, neural functioning, the gut microbiome, and tissue markers of disease. I served as the data analysis lead for the lab using R and Excel to revisit old data and evaluate new data to determine next steps, as well as create data templates for easy visualization in future studies. I also identified problem areas and inefficiencies in some of the lab's methods and wrote new experimental protocols to make training easier and to have higher rates of success. My responsibilities extended to those typically reserved for laboratory managers, including ordering supplies, ensuring health and safety compliance, and managing the budget for the lab's $300k in grant funding. I also edited papers and reports as needed.

I taught three semesters of upper-division undergraduate courses: Biological Clocks (Fall 2018) and Intro to Biological Psychology (Spring 2019, Fall 2019). I taught three hour-long classes each week with 20–150 students. I developed confidence in public speaking, explaining complex ideas and fielding questions, and finding ways to keep the audience engaged with the very technical material. I regularly received above average teaching evaluations by supporting and inspiring students to continue in medicine or research science. The students I mentored have gone on to medical school, PhD programs, and major pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

I studied the long-term effects of prenatal circadian disruption on the brain and behavior. I developed a five-year research plan that accounted for multiple possible outcomes and streamlined the experiments to reduce inefficiencies and make forming conclusions more straightforward. My research has wide-reaching public health implications in a world of artificial light, shift work, and jet lag. I used the massive amounts of behavioral and timescale data to create a better understanding of how we can live our best lives in today's world.I collected detailed data on a number of neural markers and behavioral phenotypes analyzed them using R and Python to determine the types and extent of the changes caused by maternal jet lag. I also built and programmed much of my own equipment in the CITRIS Lab through the College of Engineering using Illustrator, AutoCAD, and Python. Since I had 25 hours of experiments to do each day, I hired, trained, and managed several undergraduate assistants who were able to perform delegated tasks. At times, had to address sub-par work and discuss plans for improvement.

I developed an unexpected passion for social behaviors and circadian neurobiology in Prof. Elliott Albers's lab under the supervision of his then-postdoctoral researcher Dr. James Walton (now at WVU). I learned research fundamentals while I earned their confidence and took on increasing responsibilities. By the end of my time there, I was independently running experiments, performing complex and delicate procedures, training others on techniques, and gaining odd skills like electrical wiring. This lab fostered a distinct sense of inclusion--even though I was young, they invested in me and valued my contributions.

Teaching labs don't set themselves up! This student position taught me foundational laboratory and organizational skills that kept more than 20 lab sessions running smoothly each week.
