Soccer Without Borders is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that runs year-round youth development programs in underserved areas in the USA and abroad, using soccer as a vehicle for positive change. Soccer Without Borders is widely considered one of the nation’s leaders in Sports Based Youth Development, and recently was recognized with the FIFA Diversity Award in 2017 for promoting anti-racism. Through five core activities and a powerful team environment, SWB programs provide youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success. Since 2006, SWB has led programs and collaborations in eleven countries on five continents, and is best known for its work with newcomer refugee, asylee, and immigrant youth as well as engaging girls of all cultural backgrounds.

A key priority for Soccer Without Borders for this year was to evolve our organizational structures and mission delivery to advance impact and influence beyond core programs. In order to do this, we must not only implement quality programs, but capture and share our learnings with others. When it comes to the UN's Global Goal #5 (Advancing Gender Equity), SWB leads by getting girls from a wide range of cultural backgrounds in the game, developing pipelines of female coaches, and advancing gender inclusive organizations. My role as Manager for this 1-year pilot program was to make SWB USA more inclusive through leveraging the Gender Inclusion Self-assessment to advance gender equity on the pitch and on the sidelines across SWB programs in Maryland, Boston, Colorado, and Oakland, and in the SWB USA collective policies as a whole. I worked intensively with 11 female coaches to understand their program life cycles, complete a quality assessment to strategically pull out key targets, and then worked with them to create a Gender Action plan to help advance those targets. I also served in a supporting role for Global Goal 5 Accelerator projects globally, facilitating online trainings for 30 coaches across 6 countries and organizations, focused on increasing girls in the game and building up the female coach.

Tech Goes Home provides under-served residents the opportunity, tools, education, and access required for 21st century skills development. Tech Goes Home is focused on tackling the entrenched barriers to technology adoption and Internet access in Boston and across the US.• Designed four volunteer tracks to enhance programs that decrease the digital divide for nearly 4,000 Bostonians annually• Facilitated guest trainer and classroom mentor placements from local colleges, high schools, and other non-profits, as well as corporate partners including Deloitte, Fidelity, and NetSuite• Managed, prepared, and delivered presentations at volunteer events for relevant stakeholders• Recruited 200 volunteers representing 22 different language across 100 sites contributing more than 2000 hours in service
