This or that?As a young child, selecting a new pair of canvas sneakers at the start of each school year was both exciting and simple, a pure joy really. My mom would take my brother and me to the local shoe store where we were expected, of course, to be on our best behavior. Although the style of the sneaker was always the same, we could choose between one of three available colors (red, white or navy blue).In today’s hyper-choice milieu, perhaps a memory like this is why people often wish to go back to a more simple time. For me, it was a satisfying, risk-free choice that allowed plenty of time left in the day for play and it also explains, to some extent, my career path. Too many choices, without organization or a set of criteria for decision-making can overwhelm us and lead to snap judgements or paralyze us from moving forward. Finding the sweet-spot between overthinking and problem-solving can be challenging, but is also extremely rewarding.I enjoy making informed decisions and helping people choose more wisely. My love of analysis and research, belief in life-long learning, and desire for organization in the midst of chaos led me to careers in both tax and education. Environments rich in technical and theoretical discussion, opportunity for questioning and collaboration, and people with positive energy bring out the best in me. What helps you make decisions and be successful?When I’m not researching, drafting memos, or analyzing data, I enjoy activities that spark creativity, decompress my mind, and allow me to hang out with my husband, family and friends. You may find me painting a picture or the walls of our home, attending festivals and fine art fairs, exploring museums and cultural centers, cheering on our favorite sports teams, walking the dog, binging on a new TV series, and passing the time with friends over morning coffee or neighbors in the courtyard.
