Profile bio

About Madeline West

I'm a community organizer and campaign strategist, driven by a passion for justice and equity. My journey into activism began in my youth, organizing for endangered species in California, and against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2016, my passion for justice was reinvigorated with the powerful calls to action from Black Lives Matter and Standing Rock. Since then, I've dedicated myself to various local, statewide, and national campaigns, striving to make a difference wherever I can. I am currently serving as Development Director at Next Up & Next Up Action Fund: I am thrilled to bring much needed resources to scaffold the next generation of youth leaders, focusing on creating equitable pathways for young black, indigenous, youth of color, and intersecting identities to be the leaders we need today, and in the future. In California, I was a core organizer for Divestment and Public Banking initiatives. Now in Oregon, I serve as the Chair of the Oregon Public Banking Alliance, leading the legislative efforts to develop a State Bank structure suited for Oregon. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the Public Banking Institute, focusing on outreach and coalition-building.My diverse campaign experience includes roles as Field Organizer for Bernie Sanders in 2020, Fundraising Director for Nina Turner in 2022, and senior strategist for various local and federal campaigns. As Deputy State Director for the Get Out the Vaccine Campaign in California, I helped mobilize Community Based Organizations to reach 2 million people with vital Covid-related resources. In my free time, I love travel, cooking, gardening, and exploring the Oregon outdoors. My mission is to empower people to create impactful movements through electoral politics, direct action, lobbying, and the legislative process.

Listed skills include Feature Films, Theatre, Acting, Entertainment, and 24 others.

As we entered the summer, the State of California had massive vaccination disparities by region, with higher income areas having nearly 90% vaccination rates, and underserved areas hovering between 25-30% rates even as they faced the highest risks from Covid and the worst health outcomes. As a result of a multi-pronged approach with a variety of community health partnerships, we were able to raise the vaccination rates in our most underserved areas from 25-30% in early summer to 65-80% by the fall. Additionally, since funding went directly to local community based organizations already serving these areas, we were able to provide living wage jobs in the community and increased community awareness of local support organizations.I spearheaded a direct collaboration with the LA County Department of Health to share information regarding mobile vaccination sites and walk-up clinics which increase access dramatically (especially when available on the weekends, with local options and without appointment) and knowledge sharing between our program and county resources to work more efficiently. I also implemented a direct texting program into our areas informing the community of weekend and walkup options (again, increasing access to our working communities). Show less
