Choosing Wisely STARS (Students and Trainees Advocating for Resource Stewardship) aims to catalyze grassroots, student-led initiatives to advance health care value in medical education. I was selected as one of two Choosing Wisely STARS to represent the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Research independent study investigating francophone refugee women's experience with maternal and reproductive healthcare across three distinct settings: in their home country, in a refugee camp, and in Durham, NC. This research will inform a double honor's thesis in Global Health and French in the Spring 2018.• Experience with manual analysis of qualitative interviews using analytic memo writing

Bass Connections: Stemming the Opiate Outreach through Education and Outreach• Met with key stakeholders in opioid crisis, brainstormed ideas to combat state crisis, and partnered with collaborators in the Duke Emergency Department to develop initiative for naloxone distribution to patients at-risk of overdose (in-progress)• Co-author of $75,000 Duke Institute for Health Innovation grant proposal • Organized mental health first aid training course for Duke students by Alliance Behavioral Health

Service Learning Assistant (SLA) for French 325S: Global Displacement--Voix Francophone, an undergraduate upper-level French course that connects Duke students with francophone refugee families in Durham through a partnership with World Relief.

WISER is an international non-governmental organization that works toward the social empowerment of underprivileged women through education and health. The Secondary School for Girls serves high-school aged girls in rural Kenya, providing a safe environment and skilled instructors. • Established and taught a co-ed sexual and reproductive health curriculum to over 300 middle school students and 60 high-school aged WISER students • Prepared and implemented daily lesson plans in English, science and math for teaching position at two local middle schools under supervision of an experienced teacher

Co-taught a half-credit course for 16 undergraduate students titled "Women and International Development" on the role of women in international development, with a focus on health, education and economic contributions

• Conducted follow-up phone calls for patients who left without being seen and patients treated in the department • Responded to patient concerns by visiting patients in hospital beds and waiting room area • Created and implemented a new patient satisfaction survey for use in the department • Attended meetings and retreats with senior leadership in hospital administration
