Hi I'm Maddy. I’ve been telling stories and making sure the world knows about them for many years. And it’s been a blast. I’ve met amazing people and even keep in touch with some of them – from a TV series on homicide detectives in Baltimore to American teenagers finding their purpose – I’ve always looked for what drives people. And, then I dig a little deeper to see what lies beneath. Sometimes there is gold and that usually means a really good story. I live for that moment. A little about my background: I'm a former television, radio, and documentary producer. I got my start at National Public Radio working the overnight shift on Morning Edition for the late host, Bob Edwards. I learned how to edit and produce radio stories from watching the best and lots of years of practice. I love listening to stories, as much as I enjoy telling them. My grandfather was an immigrant from Poland, and he would entertain me as a kid with his wild (and mostly made up) stories of his life as a teenager in Poland and then NYC during WWII. I learned how fun it was to imagine the lives, loves and dreams of other people. I caught the storytelling bug, from my family, who were comedic storytellers and always exaggerated to get the best laughs. No one cared, it was storytelling. Of course, when I worked in journalism I had to stick to the facts, but that’s okay, because true stories are some of the best stories I’ve ever heard.I’ve had the pleasure of producing radio stories for NPR’s, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend ATC and Weekend Edition with Scott Simon (who if anyone has gotten this far is one of the best dressed hosts at NPR). I’ve also been an associate producer, producer and script supervisor for Discovery Channel, Smithsonian Channel, Animal Planet and PBS. I've worked on Emmy winning shows and produced award winning radio stories for NPR.I’m a versatile writer and have told stories in multiple formats, as you can see from my background, and I have even tried stand-up comedy a few times. A format that all the best comics make look easy. To close: What makes for a great story? A beginning, middle and end; a problem and a struggle to solve it; a character you care about; and suspense to keep the audience riveted. I try to bring that to everything I do – lest people get bored, nap, or go for happy hour.
