Working as a waitress, I have learned how to multitask, work under pressure, and balance working with many individuals (cooks, hosts, management, bartenders) to provide a pleasurable experience for guests.

OLHSA (Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency) is a community outreach program based in Pontiac, MI. I was the first intern hired on, so I was able to assist with laying the groundwork of the summer program. My duties included planning the meal delivery routes, paperwork and education for the meal sites, and organizing the employee schedule. There, I distributed healthy meals to the community, traveling around Pontiac and interacting with the schools and churches directly.

ASB is a great way for Oakland University students to volunteer during spring break. I spent every spring break planning trips, selecting volunteers, coordinating housing/food/transportation, communicating with various nonprofits, and giving back in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Georgia.

Flint, Mi

Carriage Town Ministries is a homeless shelter and non-profit organization. I spent two summers interning there teaching the children of the community healthy eating habits and exercise in summer school. I also coordinated the Back to the Books event, working with sponsors, suppliers, volunteers, and the community. Each year we were able to provide 120 children with uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies.

Pontiac, Mi

CWK is a great organization that provides an enriching after school experience for children to learn healthy behaviors. I volunteered there for a semester and prepared food, helped children complete worksheets on healthy behaviors, and taught them how to prepare healthy snacks themselves.

Flint, Mi

For Easter Seals’ Back to School event, I created flyers with healthy recipes and meal ideas and handed out fruits, vegetables, and healthy snacks to those at the fair.
