I manage the scientific, fiscal and administrative operations of the Trans NIH RNAi Screening Facility, comprised of several biological scientists with further informatics, automation, compound management, and project management support.I am pursuing the establishment of a high throughput genomic technologies platform both within the RNAi group and in collaboration with other assay development and functional genomics groups at NCATS to pursue new technologies for exploring gene function, including but not limited to CRISPR/Cas9 and related gene-editing approaches, as well as the interrogation of biological systems with annotated sets of perturbagens, to advance the scientific breadth of the Facility.

I managed the laboratory and administrative operations of the Trans NIH RNAi Facility, comprised of several biological scientists with further informatics, automation, compound management, and project management support. I facilitated and managed existing and incoming collaborative projects with NIH intramural investigators to conduct genome-wide RNAi screening projects, including assay development, screening, and validation, in order to understand functional biology and accelerate target discovery and validation.

My research focused on developing assays to interrogate and explore new frontiers in cancer and stem cell biology, especially in a 3Dimensional, physiologically relevant context. As a translational scientist, my responsibilities include the the development, miniaturization and optimization of physiologically relevant cell-based 2D and 3D assays to make them amenable for the screening of high-impact compound libraries with the goal of identifying unique receptor/ligand interaction and efficacy in various disease pathologies.

I developed a 3 dimensional ex-vivo model of ovarian cancer that can be used for the high throughput screening of possible new drugs/chemical and biological entities and various combinations thereof and identify specific therapeutics that can target the cancer stem cell population

I served as the Vice President of membership for the GAIBP which is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together biomedical professionals in the greater DC/MD/VA area in order to facilitate better communicate and foster new business partnerships and entrepreneurial ventures.

Read, review and evaluate the most pertinent research articles in biology and medicine.

I worked on elucidating the mechanisms of action and efficacy of a possible targeted therapeutic in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

I oversaw the financial health and investments of the organization as well as the disbursement of fellowship awards and grants to pre and post-doctoral students in the United States. Spearheaded and co-coordinating the initiative for the establishment of an international chapter for GWIS with members in over 8 countries. Worked with philanthropic organizations in India, Botswana and Sri Lanka to institute programs for women in Science that will be supported by the international arm of GWIS. Coordinating the organization’s STEM outreach efforts at the high school, undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels.

Maintained relationships with KGI alumni to keep them abreast of the school’s progress and innovative programs and acted as the KGI liaison for the east coast to identify biotech/pharma companies that were interested in hiring KGI graduates as interns or as part of their team master’s project groups. Identified human management training programs/consulting services that could potentially be incorporated into the MBS/PPM curriculum at KGI and maintained and coordinated an active KGI alumni community in the DC/MD/VA area.

Funded by this transatlantic specialty pharmaceutical company in conjunction with the George Washington University Cancer Institute to conduct post marketing studies on one of their products . Successfully directed and completed the project.
