As a Volunteer Leader, I work as an intermediary between volunteers and permanent staff members. I work collaboratively with my Namibian colleagues to find new local organizations that are suitable for volunteers as well as matching incoming volunteers with a site that suits their experience and skillset. Once volunteers arrive I stay in constant contact with them to support their difficult transition to a new culture. If issues arise between the volunteer and their organization or PC staff members I help to mediate the conflict.

Namibia

In early 2017, Peace Corps invited me to teach English in Namibia. I underwent a 3-month training process and then moved to my final site. I am now live and work in a rural village focusing my efforts on mentoring and empowering youth. My primary project is teaching English to grades 6 and 7. I also teach an art class and lead a girls club at my school. Outside of my community, I am involved in running two regional camps for learners (Camp BRO and Camp GLOW- a boys camp and a girls camp, respectively). This has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life.
