Worked in the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI) at Johns Hopkins University for mechanical engineering professor Jaafar El-Awady. In the lab, developed and analyzed new, multi-scale computational and experimental methods in order to better understand and quantify the internal deformation of materials. Constructed a computational alternative to 3D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) by implementing Python to automate, compute, and track surface displacements of slip planes during mechanical testing. Responsible for fabricating micropillars using the Focused Ion Beam (FIB), cutting bulk samples using the wire EDM, conducting compression tests, and capturing high resolution Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images of pillars post deformation to experimentally validate the developed computational method. These novel approaches will provide the necessary deformation characterization and analysis to produce next-generation materials for aerospace, automotive, and energy utilization. Presented research at the Materials Science and Technology (MS&T) technical exhibit in October 2023.
