As an advisory committee member, I volunteer as an ambassador for Sharsheret within the Tampa Bay region. I help to make new community connections, speak on behalf of Sharsheret at local events, and continue to spread our resources and services to aid women and families living with or at an increased genetic risk of breast or ovarian cancer.

Through my HRSA funded MCH Scholar program, I participated in an Academic-Community Research Internship where I was matched with a faculty member who was conducting research in a field important to me. With this, I worked alongside Dr. Dinorah Martinez-Tyson and her team on Phase 2 of their PCORI grant. This grant is helping the overall study of Together After Cancer, which is a program assisting Latina breast cancer survivors and their intimate partners navigate breast cancer and life after. Throughout my time, I assisted with creating new recruitment materials, dissemination of Phase 1 focus group information, maintain participant incentive tracking, translation of community advisory board interviews, and contact potential participants to hopefully be eligible and enroll in the Together After Cancer study.

Selected as a HRSA funded scholar at the University of South Florida where I participated in leadership seminars, received individual mentorships, network with MCH leaders, attend a variety of MCH events/conferences, and an Academic-Community Research Internship. Through these experiences I was able to embody many MCH competencies that helped to further advance my academic, career, and personal goals.

Being a friend for kids through and beyond their parent's cancer is so important given the impact cancer has on anyone. Kesem provides year round support for these kids to allow us as student leaders to be that friend to them. As the Development Coordinator the responsibilities I hold include securing grants and sponsorships, organizing and facilitating our largest fundraising event- Giving Tuesday, and assisting Kesem members in individualized fundraising throughout the year. All the money raised during the year directly supports the kids and families we support.

Children impacted by a parent's cancer is valued cause that I have been involved in for many years. Camp Kesem has provided me the opportunity to be a student leader helping this important cause. In this Make the Magic Coordinator role, I am responsible for planning our annual spring fundraising gala. Key tasks involved in my role include: sponsorship recruitment, event planning and logistics, identifying and signing keynote speakers, etc.

Cooper City High School

After substituting for a couple weeks across BCPS, a vacancy at Cooper City High School in their biology department opened up. I was able to fill this position, where I took on educating 5 biology courses and 1 marine science course to help the students understand the subject and pass their necessary exams for the state of Florida. I was able to grow my organizational, creativity, and problem-solving skills as I worked with my students to ensure their success in my classes but throughout high school as a whole.

Breast and Ovarian Cancer is a Jewish community issue as the hereditary risk is higher. Sharsheret has allowed me the opportunity to make a difference in the Jewish community through important programming and outreach. My responsibilities included outreach to local jewish organizations and religious institutions, facilitating conversations to implement Sharsheret programming in the upcoming year and continuing to educate people on breast and ovarian cancer.

Public Health is a well-known field. However, the University of Miami lacked a student organization geared towards health studies students. As Vice President, I held a variety of responsibilities such as filling in for the President as needed, organizing and facilitating a partnership with BLUE Missions a non-profit organization that allowed our members to attend a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to improve sanitation in a rural community, and attend organizational fairs set up by the university. This organization is brand new to the university and one that is flourishing!

This summer internship provided me the opportunity to gain real world experience in a healthcare environment. I was able to learn the inner workings of the oncology department in a world renowned facility by assisting one of the lead ARNPs with paperwork. In addition I was giving the opportunity to observe chemotherapy teachings with the oncology staff.
