Assist with managing and performing activities on ranch including pen maintenance and cleaning, filling and cleaning of water troughs, cleaning and maintenance of barn stalls, barn maintenance including cleaning and general upkeep, grounds management including mowing, spraying of weeds, raking, dragging, painting fences, fence repair, hotwire fence maintenance, power washing, Fodder machine maintenance, vehicle cleaning, water well maintenance including pipe repair and maintenance. Assist with managing and performing horse care including herd health, triage and wound care, management and administration of medications, feeding of horses, grooming, Body Condition Scoring and feed programs, collection of stallions with artificial vaginas, semen evaluation, breeding of facility mares by means of Artificial Insemination, ultrasound and palpation of brood mares, foaling of mares, weaning and training of young foals, breeding and herd records as well as vaccination schedules and administration. Assist with managing and performing freezing, storage, inventory, and shipping of frozen semen. Assist with embryo recovery, evaluation and transfers. Assist with managing, generation of purchase orders and ordering lab supplies. Facilitate and prepare property and horses for hosted barn events including set up and take down. Prepare facilities and horses for photoshoots. Assist with transportation of horses per facility needs. Assist with design and construction of projects for facilities. Work with veterinarians for breeding needs as well as herd health issues. Perform daily work log emails as needed. Live in facility position including night checks, after hours medical availability and required presence of one employee on facility at all times. Knowledge of Wise Option, equine records program, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Outlook Web Design and Word.

Assist Barn Manager with teaching the Stud and Foal Managers: stallion handling in the breeding shed, semen evaluation, processing cooled and frozen semen, ultrasound and rectal palpation, artificial insemination, breeding with frozen semen, heat cycle tracking and manipulation using hormones such as progesterone and prostaglandin, preparing mares for parturition, assist during foalings, IgG evaluation of neonates, halter breaking of weanlings, training yearling horses for facility production sale, vaccine protocols and administration, farrier schedules, exercise of facility riding animals and nutrition and feeding needs. Assist with phantom training and freezing semen for facility commercial operation with client stallions. Aid teaching introductory horse classes and internships with basic horse handling skills. Completion of office work including herd records using Wise Option Horse Management Software, return facility phone calls, organize and process stallion breeding contracts and foaling contracts. Manage arena, hot-walker and round-pen footing with regards to watering and dragging. Maintain facilities with bobcat and tractor. Maintain and update social media pages such as Instagram and Facebook for the facility.

Learned the basic management of a broodmare herd and how to use the technologies in the equine reproduction industry; including ultrasounds as well as programs such as Wise Option. Learned to perform daily tasks as needed; including collecting stallions, evaluating semen, processing cooled and frozen semen as well as client shipments, heat detection and manipulation of mares using hormones, rectal mare palpations and artificial insemination, exercise riding, assisting veterinarians during procedures, administering medications, assisting the farrier, as well as feeding and general grooming. Volunteer at the University of California, Davis Department of Animal Science events such as Horse Day, Donkey Days, Field Day, Picnic Day, and was the announcer at the Annual Production Sale. Represented the University and the Department of Animal Science at Bishop Mule Days. Member of the Reserve World Champion Interscholastic Pack Team at Bishop Mule Days 2014 and 2015.

Aid Pathologists on the Necropsy Floor at the California Animal Health and Food Safety lab. Work includes sterilization of the lab tables and instruments, completing weekly disinfection of laboratory floors to protocol, aid in loading the incinerator, cleaning specimen containers to protocol after procedures, proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste, bagging tissues in formalin solution for long term storage as well as tissue trimming and evaluation, after hours on-call and animal collection, logging specimen entries using StarLims Computer Software, and assisting pathologists during procedures. Assistance during procedures includes the collection and bagging of samples, taking pictures of samples for later review by the pathologist, and the movement of larger animals via the mechanical hoist system.

Participated in a study determining the use of shade by captive wild horses. Work included watching video footage and recording the use of the shade structure in excel files. The work was included in the 2014 “Minimum Standards of Horse Care in the State of California” intended to educate those applying animal cruelty rules and regulations.
