Kappa Kappa Gamma - Vice President Of Internal Affairs (Vpia)
Currently, I hold the Vice President of Internal Affairs (VPIA) position on my chapter executive board. This board position is responsible for various subjects such as membership engagement, ritual and history, and academic excellence. Through my past years in Kappa, these were aspects that have always intrigued me. As I oversee these director positions, I feel that I have created a team of individuals. In this team, I plan to continue to add elements, activities, and resources to make KKG the best that it can be. This leadership role has helped me guide others as well as implement my creative skills throughout Kappa Kappa Gamma. I look forward to a great year as VPIA, and all of the extraordinary experiences to come.
Kappa Kappa Gamma - Marshal
My involvement in Kappa Kappa Gamma has given me the mechanism to grow as an individual and leader amongst my sisters. In the Spring of 2022, I was elected Marshal of the Zeta Chi Chapter at Marist College. My position as Marshal taught the chapter about the historical aspects on how KKG came to be. Being involved on the board has strengthened my organization, collaborative, and instructional skills. As Marshal, I organized the ritual practices which strengthen the bonds within our chapter. It is precisely what binds us together as sisters. Ritual helps to preserve the link that ties together generations of members through songs. Through meetings and practices, I helped teach others more about what it means to be in Kappa Kappa Gamma. I hope that through these meetings, I was able to make an extraordinary impact on all of my sisters in the chapter. Personally, this experience helped boost my confidence in my organizational and leadership abilities as I prepare to become a future educator. This past fall I studied abroad in Florence, Italy and was able to immerse myself in Italian culture with several of my sisters. A total of 20 of us in the Zeta Chi Chapter at Marist went abroad to Florence. Exploring the world with my sisters was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Ywca
Expanded my fieldwork experiences and started as a Childcare Floater at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Hanover, PA. I assisted students with everyday needs through camp based activities. Trained as van driver for transportation to daily fieldtrips.
Hawaii Extension Program
Once in a lifetime opportunity to expand my knowledge of culture and community through the Hawaii-Extension Program at Marist College. I furthered my fieldwork experience on some of the Hawaiian islands visiting various classroom environments. Due to the poverty levels, several schools had limited resources for learning. The open air/outdoor classrooms were unique and gave me a new perspective of what a learning environment can look like. My time at Marist so far has elevated my understanding of a greater and more diverse community around me. Participating in the Hawaii extension program furthered this experience. I was able to experience more diverse geography, cultures and teaching methodologies. Through my fieldwork experiences, I was given the opportunity to experience teaching in real-life settings. This allowed me to gain valuable, real-world problem-solving skills and experience in what it truly takes to bring ideas into reality. As a future educator, I want to have flexible teaching styles just like the teachers I observed. Their culturally-inclusive curriculum should be a commonality within all classrooms around our world. I am excited to tell my future students about my experiences in Hawaii, and how I was able to experience the community from a whole new perspective. I am truly grateful for this opportunity as it has made a lasting impact that will enhance my future life as a teacher.
