Hi, my name is Madison Szymanski, and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I chose to major in Sports Marketing and Management at IU because I have grown up surrounded by sports. My grandpa has taught me a great deal of what I know about sports and I would like to continue growing in this field. My main values are integrity, honesty, and respect for others. My main strengths are dedication, determination, and being responsible. When I was a senior in high school, I was captain of the swim team. Throughout the season, I could see my teammates struggling with mental health and other issues. Overall, the team was at a low and something needed to be done. With that being said, I took initiative and talked to the coaches about the issues at hand. We started doing more team bonding and events every Thursday and we also had team meetings to discuss whatever was keeping us down. From here, the attendance and attitudes of every member greatly increased. I took an oath to lead the team, but also be there for the team. I knew something needed to change in order for success to come. I am now continuing to use these traits in my classes and everyday life to further set myself up for success post-graduation. In the future, I plan to base a workplace off of these characteristics because I believe this is how to manage a successful business.
