My experience with this company taught me how to engage with customers in numerous ways. Between floor experience up to the tills, I was involved in helping customers find products, engaging with them, and ensuring they had a good experience in the store overall. I was most frequently working on the cash side of things, allowing me to further develop my cash-handling skills. Because of the immense importance of the store's appearance, I was also heavily focused on replenishing stock and tidying tables and displays. I was highly versatile in that I could do all parts of the job, not only the floor and cash desk, but also processing stock and replenishment team early in the mornings.

My time with this company enabled me to work independently and with others daily. Numerous tasks were required to be carried out on a daily basis. Hence, smaller ones were divided between myself and my coworkers, and larger ones were completed together. The main focus of this position was to make fresh, pre-made meals and snacks for the customers. Special orders were requested some days, allowing me to pay special attention to detail. Cleanliness and organization were imperative for the role in ensuring the standards were met, and tasks were completed in a time-efficient manner. Rotation of stock and helping customers to find products, both within my department and spread around the store, was a common occurrence. It was a good, fast-paced environment, enabling further development of the skills I had acquired in prior work experiences.

My role as a cashier enabled me to learn cash-handling skills while working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. I got to engage with numerous customers and have conversations while helping to ensure they found everything they were looking for, providing details of when we would have more or issuing rainchecks. Locating products and keeping the front of the store stocked and organized were commonly assigned tasks. Teamwork and individual work were both heavily emphasized. Sometimes, you would have someone to assist you in bagging the customers' groceries. However, other times, it was entirely up to the individual. The fast pace and high pressure made it a worthy challenge to remain calm under pressure and continue engaging in happy conversations when handling customer interactions.

My role in this position was a heavily team-driven work environment. You were never alone in the department, so tasks were divided or worked on together. Attention to detail was necessary when there were significant or special orders. Other vital jobs I encountered involved coordinating departmental sanitation and organization. This involved straightening and rotating stock on the floor to ensure nothing would expire on the shelves. Additionally, I was responsible for helping complete inventory in the department every few months. Departmental sanitation was critical as meat products had to be cleaned off countertops, knives, or slicers. Customer engagement and communication were immensely important and heavily emphasized by management. This included ensuring we could help them find products anywhere within the store. As a fast-paced environment, it helped me to learn to remain calm under pressure and ensure that attention to detail was paid to remain safe and have a good work environment and customer shopping experience.
