This bilingual position with the Charleston County School District in Migrant Education involves tutoring young children of individuals working in agriculture in Charleston and teaching English classes to migrant farmworkers. Of course, the position also includes recruiting migrant farmworkers for the Migrant Education Program, who will then be able to participate in classes and have access to Migrant Ed resources.

I studied abroad for a second semester my Junior year in college in Santiago, Chile. While in Chile, I investigated contemporary feminism through an Independent Study with the head of Hispanic Studies Department at College of Charleston; I completed this project entirely in Spanish and also interviewed a local Chilean feminist author. I also took courses with Chilean professors on Latin American politics, culture and history with an emphasis on Chile.

While I was based in Charleston, I drove across South Carolina to learn more about farmworkers, provide educational assistance and improve my Spanish. During my Junior year of college, I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a semester, completing 5 courses taught by Argentina professors involving Argentine history, indigenous cultures, social issues and the Spanish language. I improved my Spanish by living with a host family, and I also traveled to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina on a field study to interview individuals from the Mapuche communities there.
