I completed my doctoral capstone project on the relationship between trauma and neurodivergence in pediatric populations. My project had two primary components: 1) learning more about trauma-informed care, neurodiversity-affirming care, and how the two can be integrated in clinical practice, and 2) investigating whether it may be appropriate and beneficial to classify and treat developmental trauma as a form of neurodivergence. Project deliverables included educational materials to help increase clinicians' understanding of what developmental trauma is and how to best serve children who are impacted by it. I collaborated with my project mentors to write two articles on this topic - one has been accepted for publication in April 2025 and the other is currently under review.

I completed a 12-week fieldwork rotation at Sugar House Health Center, an outpatient neurorehabilitation clinic. During this rotation, I provided skilled occupational therapy services to adults with a variety of neurological injuries and conditions, including spinal cord injuries, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy, neurodegenerative diseases, and amputations. I assisted with the Spinal Cord Injury Support Group and the Return to Driving Program, which involved administering pre-driving written assessments, preparing intervention activities that target skills needed for safe driving, providing education on car modifications and adaptive controls, and evaluating patient performance on the driving simulator.

I completed a 12-week fieldwork rotation at Woven Care*, an outpatient pediatric clinic. During this rotation, I provided skilled occupational therapy services to children between the ages of two and 16 with a variety of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), sensory processing disorder, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, traumatic brain injury, genetic disorders, visual impairments, and feeding disorders. I gained competence in pediatric vision therapy and feeding therapy. Toward the end of my rotation, I delivered an in-service presentation on developmental trauma and the basics of trauma-informed care. I was selected to serve a one-year term as a student intern for the AOTA Children & Youth Special Interest Section. My responsibilities include attending regular committee meetings, preparing presentations to occupational therapy programs, writing academic articles and forum posts, and assisting with various projects.

I provided one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy services to children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities. Therapy sessions took place in a variety of settings, including the home, school, clinic, and community. I worked under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and carried out the treatment plans that they designed for our clients. I also collaborated with parents, teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other health professionals to ensure that we were providing comprehensive care. My responsibilities included running skill acquisition targets, following behavior support plans, collecting data, and writing session notes.
