As a MedSurg Float RN I am trained and proficient in the following units: cardiac, GI, surgery, trauma, burn, complex care, orthopedics, genetics, ENT, pulmonology, infectious disease, and hematology/oncology.

Taught comprehensive body systems, answer student’s questions, grade and proctor exams

As a MEDTAPP Interprofessional Fellow, I was one of three undergraduate nursing students chosen to collaborate with medical professionals to gain further knowledge on working with an interdisciplinary team. My team first semester included a social worker, medical student, dietitian, and a speech language pathologist student. Second semester a physical therapy student was added. I obtained hands on experience learning about their scope of practice through clinical, simulation and weekly report backs. As a team, we simulated a workplace setting using our own specializations to join together and create an effective care plan for a patient. In simulations we would demonstrate and prioritize our skill sets to efficiently complete our tasks in the given time frame.

Cardiac Thoracic Intensice Care Unit

I was accepted into a 12 week student nurse extern program in the CTICU. I was assigned a preceptor on the unit, worked full-time and attended classes pertaining to learning about different units in the hospital. I attended hands on workshops on the following: mock codes, tracheotomy care, nasogastric insertion, intraosseous infusion, IV insertion, C-spine stabilization, subcutaneous port care, and emergency respiratory interventions. I also completed an evidence based practice research project to successfully graduate from the program.
