Working with people is one of my favorite things; from weddings to coaching, and especially peer tutoring. I have been peer tutoring, being a student assistant in a Special Education room, since 7th grade. I love the relationships I build with the kids, the unconditional love they show me, and the laughs and giggles we have every day. These kids have encouraged me to finally answer the age old question 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' and I have picked to work with and encourage them more as a Special Education Teacher.I was first exposed to peer tutoring in 7th grade, when I was a peer tutor for one of my class periods. Since then I have peer tutored full year and as a senior in high school now have roughly 700 hours of experience working, teaching, and loving these kids. Most of the students I have been working with for 5+ years, and the smiles they give when they see me are always one of the best parts of my day.I recently had the chance to be intern at SFJHS in the SPED department, with the teachers and techs who first showed me how much I would love this. I spent roughly 70 hours there throughout the semester, working with a whole new group of kids, taking them to classes, leading lessons, and getting to building friendships. Being in a room as more of a tech lets me see how the room functions, parent and student relations, and how peer tutors can be efficiently used a room, and how important it is to have a good relationship with the kids in the class can be for a safe and fun learning environment.I am currently interning at Diamond Fork Middle School, in their SPED department. I'll spend roughly 8 to 12 hours there every week, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone there! The experiences I am getting mean the world to me, and every day I am there I can't wait till I can be teaching in a room of my own.I hope to one day be teaching in a room of my own, and plan to attend Utah Valley University, and as of now will graduate within 3 years. While I attend school, I want to tech in a room to see more ways to teach and interact with these kids, as well as coach a Jr High/Middle School Cross County and/or Track team. I wouldn't give my hours I have spent with them for anything! These kids truly are the best part of my day!
