About Mads Brøkner Falkenberg Christiansen
I am an experienced technical project manager, currently focused on early innovation in the medical device industry. My educational background is in applied physics engineering, with a Ph.D. in nanoscale optics. I love using technology to make a real difference to health care professionals and patients.In my first optics developer job, I was key in developing shade measurement for TRIOS intraoral scanners, the world's first with this feature, and got the idea for a new optical coating for mirrors, improving the lifetime of scan tips by more than a factor seven. I was offered to work as R&D project manager, where my first project (TRIOS 3 Wireless Pen) was completed in record time. Later, I managed the TRIOS 5 scanner project. Starting with user research and exploration, it grew into a large development project. I am proud of the successful product we developed. My project management experience enables me to facilitate and balance the best decisions on electronics, software algorithms, industrial design, design for robustness, molding, medical device approval and much more. Including of course my core expertise in optics and physics. As a project manager, I trust the skills of my team members, empower them to take decisions, and challenge them at the right time. I am not afraid of admitting that I may be wrong and change my mind.I was also appointed people manager/Head of optics. I grew the group to twice the size, and I am especially humbled by one of the anonymous people surveys, where on the question "I think I have a good manager", I scored well above the company average (9.8/10), I find leadership very inspirational. My bookshelf includes books on organizations, habits, neuro-management, behavior design, and change management. I enjoy reading or listening to e-books on these topics and discussing what I learned over lunch. I am now managing discovery projects. This is the perfect opportunity for me to apply my interest in technology and influence our future product strategies. And I still get to use and develop my leadership skills. I encourage experiments in my teams and will rather fail fast and get wiser than not try ideas out. I am used to communicating and conveying the big picture to my stakeholders, and I believe the best decisions are taken by the developers, to make our common goals. In my spare time, I like kite, wake and snow boarding, especially with my family. And just enjoying our summer house and garden. My management experiments are also very useful as a parent of three teenagers, and a slightly spoiled little one.
