Mads Colvin is a Melbourne-based creative director with an approach that draws on her background in storytelling, photography, styling, visual art and literature. She specialises in creating holistic campaigns, collaborating to produce cohesive visual narratives that reflect each artist and their music. Mads works in digital and traditional film formats and excels in guiding artists to simplify their creative vision to help listeners connect to their music. Mads worked with Woodes in 2020 to create the stunning visuals for her debut album, Crystal Ball. More recently, she has been the creative director of the visual media on Woodes’ upcoming releases. Mads also enjoys working with artists to capture the spirit of live performances, including styling, production design, and photography. I began my career at age 18 as an editorial fellow in NYC, working for BuzzFeed. From there I chased my passion for writing and investigation towards a degree in creative writing, moving to Melbourne in 2012 to complete my studies. My career in Melbourne took off when I started working for Omny Studio, a radio startup, which sold to Triton Digital (USA) in 2019. During my time with Omny, I completed my bachelor’s degree at the University of Melbourne, graduating with first-class honours. I have always advocated for gender equality, bridging the confidence gap for women in business, and encouraging young women into creative careers in technology. Over the course of my career, I’ve held volunteer event coordinator and mentor positions with the Melbourne Accelerator Program, Girl Geek Academy, Startup Weekend, Startup Victoria, Swordcraft Pty Ltd. In 2013 I worked with the Melbourne Accelerator Program and Google to launch the Female Founders Meetup, an event for female business owners and high achievers to network, learn new skills, and grow.

I usually teach "Harm and Healing", which is about the reality of medieval medicine and torture (and includes real leeches!), and "Early Medieval Warfare", which is about Viking history leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 (a portion of the class is a practical and fun exercise where they learn to construct a shield wall using real Viking round shields.)This is incredibly rewarding work because I enjoy public speaking and presenting, and really love getting kids interested in history.
