I conducted research for thermal in-situ upgrading/conversion processes in extra-heavy oil and oil shale reservoirs.• I ensured the safety of thermal operations by constructing reservoir-scale models (Abaqus) for geomechanical risk assessment (surface heave and subsidence, reservoir compaction, seal integrity, and well integrity).• I decreased uncertainties in input parameters for geomechanical models, analyzing 550 high-temperature triaxial tests, building constitutive models, and up-scaling to rock mass; developed MATLAB scripts.• I delivered 3 proprietary ABAQUS plug-ins, leading development by Simulia, exceeding expectations.

Developed an innovative numerical method for constructing a 3D initial in-situ stress field that satisfies equilibrium conditions and optimizes the match to available field measurements for complex geometries. The iterative optimization procedure with regularization was implemented in Matlab coupled with a 3D finite element model in Comsol Multiphysics. Applied to a salt dome case in the North Sea.
