Unconvinced by gravity, she has developed a lust for performing in the air – whether that be suspended off the roof of BBC Television Studios, performing live on BBC's The One Show, or flying on a zip wire in the alps alongside aerial circus artists The Flying Frenchies... or even one thousand metres up, singing and playing her distinctive painted organ whilst paragliding.Fed by a desire for play and wide exploration – nurtured at the late Dartington College of Arts and the contemporary creative hot house of California Institute of the Arts - Mae has developed an unusual and characteristic style. With a wide array of influences and a thirst for the colourful, it would come as no surprise that her meeting with a troupe of aerial circus artists from the south of France back in 2010 would come to spark an eight year collaborative love affair with contemporary circus, extensive solo tours in Europe and performances on the Circus and Theatre stages at Glastonbury Festival. She currently performs with aerial companies 9.81 (France), Cirkus Nikolajeff (Sweden) and with The Flying Frenchies, and back in 2011 provided the soundtrack to their award winning film “Petit Bus Rouge” with the album “Black Horses”. She has written and produced three albums in total; alongside “Mae Karthauser and The Good Unit” (2009) and “Atlas” (2014).Running alongside her solo performances is The Midnight Fairground band, which was born out of a final Dartington College of Arts performance. Originally a twelve person multi-arts show weaving together song, dance, film and theatre, it has since become a lively musical collective, and with the huge array of eclectic instrumentalists over the years, the band has taken on many diverse flavours. The new trio performance is characterised by a warm and heavy bass – played by Rich Taylor and the high energy drumsticks of Ric Byer. Show less
