Over the course of my three years at BigCommerce, I helped grow the product into one of the world’s leading e-commerce platforms.- Fixed hundreds of bugs in production systems and internal tools- Interviewed and hired many brilliant software engineers- Trained, mentored and supported junior and mid-level software engineers- Organised and facilitated internal hackathons and creative sprints- Technical lead on first SOA project at the company, a stateless service to manage global shipping quotes and provider configuration- Influenced the transition from a monolithic PHP codebase to a distributed system of single-responsibility services- Influenced the transition towards a more robust and testable style of object-oriented PHP across the core application- Launched the original versions of open source clients for the Stores API in PHP, Ruby, Python and Java- Developed unique in-house knowledge and techniques around sampling and probing legacy code paths in production using graphite and statsd- Developed a proprietary framework for feature flags and ramp-up using weighted probabilities- Seeded and grew the use of Ruby as a core language/capability across the engineering team- Worked with the platform team to launch the App Store- Managed the expansion of the Stores API to cover the majority of merchant use cases already supported by the product UI- Designed and managed the developer portal and set up an automated publishing pipeline for documenting API resources and schemas- Prototyped and launched the initial implementation of blogging in the product- Designed and implemented Facebook SocialShop, allowing merchants to seamlessly embed their entire store on Facebook’s app platform at the time
