I am a textile, fashion and craft expert: historian, educator, curator, and documentarian with a background in design and a specific focus on Southeast Asian textiles and dress, local craft cultures, sustainability, materialities of conflict, and Southeast Asian diasporic communities in the US. I hold a BA in Graphic Design from ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres Paris (2004) and an MFA in Textile Design from the National School of Decorative Arts Paris (2006). I started my career as a textile designer for high fashion, home textile brands and trend forecasting agencies before shifting to academia. A Fulbright fellow, I was a visiting research student in 2014-2015 at the Fashion and Textile Studies, History, Theory and Museum Practice MA program at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York, followed by a one-year Smithsonian fellowship in Curatorial Textiles at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institute. In 2021, I completed my PhD in History of Design at the Royal College of Art with the thesis 'Silk and Post-Conflict Cambodia: Embodied Practices and Global and Local Dynamics of Heritage and Knowledge Transference (1991–2018).'I was an adjunct instructor from 2018 to 2021 in New York. I taught global textile history, world cultures and fashion theory in MA programs: at NYU Costume Studies, FIT Fashion and Textile Studies, and the School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons The New School.I completed a Marie Skłodowska Curie postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Textile Research, University of Copenhagen from 2022-24, working on TEX-KR, a research project dedicated to the politics and practices of dress and textiles during and after the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia.
