I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Field of Scientific Communications in a collaborative initiative between Cornell University, Virginia Tech, and the University of Florida with the goal to provide the produce industry with advanced computational tools to reduce the public health, economic, environmental, and societal impacts of produce related microbial food safety issues.The initiative is funded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under award no. 2019-51181-30016.

The Food Safety Laboratory (FSL) and Milk Quality Improvement Program (MQIP) represent a combined group that is led by Professor Martin Wiedmann in the Department of Food Science.Areas of research and projects: - Phenotypic diversity of Clostridium tyrobutyricum strains and potential to cause a late-blowing defect in cheese - Diversity and phylogeny of selected non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars associated with meat and poultry. - Population dynamics of Listeria spp., Salmonella spp., and Escherichia coli on fresh produce.- Identification & characterization of Colistin resistance determinants in NY- Characterization of Bacterial Diversity on Spinach from Different US Locations over Shelf Life research will be presented during IAFP 2023 (July 16-19, 2023 Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

As tthe primary investigator and the author of the original research project proposed to the Polish National Science Center, I initiated the collaboration with scientists from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Technical University of Gdansk on Short-Chain Fatty Acids in the context of civilization diseases and personalized medicine.

Dr. Worobo’s primary program area in the Department of Food Science is fruit, vegetable, and beverage microbiology, including food safety, juice HACCP, non-thermal processing, fruit and beverage safety and spoilage, antimicrobial peptides and proteins, and heat resistance molds and bacteria.My research has confirmed that Paenibacillus alvei MP1 (deposited at DDBJ/ENA/GenBank under the accession WSQB00000000) produces a proteinaceous, heat-stable compound(s) with confirmed moderate to high antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria that included L. monocytogenes FSL - X1-0001 (strain 10403S), S. aureus L1 - 0030 and E. coli O157: H7.
