Community composting operation with the mission to divert and convert food scraps and other organics into unique compost for local agriculture

Project funded by the US Economic Development Administration and the Build Back Better Regional Challenge – May 2022 to September 2022

• Assist graduate students with a range of tasks for projects with a focus on indigenous agriculture• Conduct bi-weekly field monitoring and data collection on a small 36 tree ‘ulu orchard for a variety trial• Collection of soil samples on a climosequence transect on Hawaii Island, Maui and Molokai, in a range of environments including wet, mesic, and dry forests• Hiking in remote areas with sampling equipment and tools• Conduct soil/plant sample analyses in the lab• Perform data entry and database management using Google applications (ie. Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft software (ie. Word, Excel)• Use of GPS, ArcGIS apps (ie. Field Maps) and ArcGIS Online for mapping soil samples and plant varieties in the field• Redesign and set up a new greenhouse from weedmat to irrigation installation• Maintain and manage greenhouse for propagating and growing ‘ulu (Artocarpus altilis)

Supported a study on large scale Korean Natural Farming techniques for anthuriums

Grant funded project to construct and carry out compost project on Kauai Comm. Campus using bioplastics and on site green waste.

• Manage District Board meeting agendas and minutes in accordance to Hawaiiʻs Sunshine Law• Work with County of Kauaʻi Public Works to fulfill duties in County Grading and Grubbing Ordinance• Manage County grants and contribution agreements• Create the SWCD Annual Report• Assist a team of Conservation Planners with Conservation Technical Assistance Plans• Assist with multiple outreach and education events including classroom and farmers market visits• Awarded $225,000 USDA-NRCS Cooperative Agreement, 2020-2023
