Staff Nurse, Ambulatory Procedure CenterProvide direct nursing care for pediatric patients receiving general anesthesia for a variety of procedures in the pre-procedure, intra-op, and recovery phases at a Magnet designated facility• Educates patients and families to the purpose and procedure of sedation for radiology or procedural services• Assists anesthesiologist in monitoring patients requiring general anesthesia• Performs Care Coordinator role to assist Charge Nurse in streamlining efficiency of day and optimum patient and family experience• Promotes unit awareness of hospital-wide safety initiatives while serving on SLCH Safety Committee

Facilitate comprehensive care for normal to high-risk pregnant and laboring patients at a level III perinatal center serving a diverse patient population• Provides training to new staff members regarding unit policies, procedures, and registered nurse role as a preceptor• Collaborates with Engagement Committee to establish staffing guidelines appropriate to fluctuating patient census• Communicates changes in patient status to Obstetrics and Gynecology Team to deliver safe and effective care to patients in accordance with American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines • Maintains open communication with Anesthesiology Team to allow for pain management therapies as needed and prepare for cesarean section when indicated

Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration to develop and implement plan of care for the immediate post-surgical patient requiring acute intervention • Facilitate the recovery process by educating post-surgical patients and their families on the expected pathway based on past medical history and surgical procedure completed• Assess patient’s clinical conditions utilizing invasive and non-invasive monitoring equipment including EKG, SP02, arterial line, CVP, PA catheter, and ICP• Recommend alterations to ventilator settings based on patient’s clinical presentation and arterial blood gas values• Implement regular unit safety checks regarding emergency equipment and supplies

Implement sedation plan in coordination with anesthesia, patient, and family to achieve best possible imaging outcomes at a Magnet designated pediatric facility• Educate patients and families to the purpose and procedure of sedation for radiology services• Assist anesthesiologist in monitoring patients requiring both procedural and general anesthesia• Independently administer procedural sedation as deemed appropriate in accordance with ASA guidelines • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to initiate new safety measures

Provide care for pregnant and laboring patients at a level III perinatal center which averages approximately 300 deliveries per month at a Magnet designated facility. • Routinely float to Alternative Birthing Center (ABC) for Certified Nurse Midwife deliveries, Perinatal Surveillance Unit for high risk obstetrical patient and gynecological patient management, and Obstetrical Triage • Function as the Neonatal Transitional Nurse providing initial assessment and care of the neonate including lab draws when necessary• Care for the post-surgical patient following both general and spinal anesthesia• Update unit policies to be in accordance with most recent evidence-based practice
