The summer program at the Avery Coonley School was transferred online for the first year due to COVID-19. This allowed counselors to both plan engaging activities for Kindergarteners to eighth graders over Zoom, along with assisting with hour long classes. In these classes, from writing to improvisation, I would lead break-out rooms, plan activities, and help the teacher if they had technological difficulties.

I would lead and plan Morning Meeting for our class every day to increase social-emotional learning and reinforce curriculum. Taught Second-Step, a social-emotional curriculum, once a week that broke down SEL concepts into step by step scenarios. Would conference with individual students in reading and writing to give students a specific strategy to work on. During independent work time, I would pull students who needed extra support or who needed extensions of the academic work. Practiced language that increased student agency and motivated students.

I work in the after school program with children from the preschool to fifth grade. Some of my responsibilities include checking the students into the program, building relationships, and watching all age children in the playground/playroom.

Also, I would build a multitude of Montessori materials such as three-part cards and then give lessons to the students.
