About Maggie Standley

With an unquenchable curiosity and ability to get to the essence of matters, I fuse expertise in education, the arts and globally grassroots development. As an IB French teacher at Middlebury Union High School this past semester, I used my 25+ years of experience in education, art, and international development to create and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that fostered language acquisition, cultural awareness, and critical thinking skills. I am fluent in French and proficient in Spanish, and have lived and worked in several countries, including Cameroon, Mexico, Cuba, and France. I am passionate about educational equity, integrated curricula, art, trauma informed practices, and a youth and neurodiversity advocate.I also own Wingspan School & Studio, where I design and lead blended curricula programs in partnership with youth organizations, offer art and French classes, and carry out mural residencies in schools. Additionally, I am the founder and director of Spread Your Wings!, a scholarship program to make summer camps accessible to at-promise youth where they acquire valuable academic, creative, and social skills. I also founded and navigated a precedent-setting community development project in Burlington, Vermont, The Myrtle Street Community Avant Garden from inception to birth to growth phase. I have won multiple awards and recognition for my work as an educator, artist, and community leader.
