I am the president of Ullman Consulting (UC). UC works to end climate change by partnering with philanthropy and non profits to create collaborative solutions. We specialize in collaboration strategy, design, facilitation, assessment, and coaching which is informed by our extensive experience building, managing, implementing, and advising environmentally focused collaborations of non profits and funders. We are a small Asheville, NC based consulting firm with a broad network in climate change philanthropy, non profits, and city sustainability. I am honored to deepen my commitment to mission based work with inspiring clients. Here are examples from my recent work: I was the Grant Fund Manager for the Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund, a $1.8M grant program to support community partnerships to implement equitable sustainability projects. This program is still run through the Southeast Sustainability Directors Network which I co-founded and served as the Executive Director for four years.I wrote the strategic plan for the Partners for Places Grant Program which is a $1.5M collaboration between seven national foundations, the Funders' Network for Smart Growth, and the Urban Sustainability Directors Network. I conducted a national partnership assessment with recommendations for the Energy Efficiency for All initiative between the JPB Foundation, National Resources Defense Council, Energy Foundation, National Housing Trust, and Elevate Energy. This partnership has secured $300M+ in utility program dollars for energy efficiency in multi family affordable housing. I wrote the strategic plan for 200+ US based climate advocacy non profits to align their strategies by collaborating through the US Climate Action Network.

While the Associate Director of Funder Collaboration I performed the following roles: Designed Funder Collaboration Meeting Sessions: Managed collaborative design processes with CWF program staff, philanthropic leaders, and program officers to set goals and desired outcomes for 8+ sessions and associated briefing materials, then created and coordinated implementation to accomplish shared goals.Coordinated Strategic Refresh Working Group on Collaboration: Coordinated and served as technical lead for the internal working group that created the collaboration strategy for the ClimateWorks Strategic Refresh.Developed and Managed Department Management Systems: Designed and managed new systems for the Funder Collaborations Department to incorporate three new hires in a five person department. Examples of management systems include: collaborative department wide work planning, weekly department meetings, bi-annual department retreats, collaborative design process to document and codify roles, responsibilities, and processes for funder convening session planning and materials review.Coordinated the Brazil Climate Philanthropy Learning Network: Coordinated the relaunch of this funder network. Activities to relaunch this group included facilitating and coordinating a funder steering committee, as well as designing and facilitating two peer learning webinars. Managed Event Logistics: Managed bi-annual event logistics for a complex, week long 75 person convening of international climate funders. Responsibilities included: managed event planner contract, event planning project management, budget management, and on site event staff management.

I was the co-founder and Executive Director of SSDN. SSDN is a professional network of local government sustainability officials in the Southeast US. We collaborate to accelerate the adoption of sustainable best practices across the region. The purpose of this network is to build capacity for community sustainability in the Southeast. SSDN strives to support members in their work, influence sustainable policies and programs at the local and state levels, and lead the advancement of national sustainability.The Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund (SSCF) is a $1.8M partnership between The Kendeda Fund, The Kresge Foundation, and the Southeast Sustainability Directors Network (SSDN). The purpose of the Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable best practices in Southeast communities by funding projects that implement local sustainability solutions, while leveraging the SSDN network to help others learn from grantee experiences and widely sharing success stories about sustainability in the Southeast.

Maggie Ullman led the City of Asheville Office of Sustainability. She was responsible for creating teams to transform policy into action. She played a centralized management role for the City’s carbon footprint reduction program. Under Ullman’s leadership the City’s program reduced it’s municipal carbon footprint 17.5% which resulted in close to $1,000,000 in avoided energy spending in the last five tight budget years. Ullman created the first Green Capital Improvement Program in the country to fund upgrading all of Asheville's Streetlights to LEDs. The GCIP is a municipal Utility Savings Revolving Program that ensures the City of Asheville's sustainability efforts are not only green, but financially sustainable.
