About Maggie Barnard
My passion for East African foreign policy has been invested throughout my 10 years of experience promoting distributive justice and international refugee policy. Strengthening my expertise, I am completing a Master of Public Policy degree at the University of Michigan, as the inaugural Weiser Diplomacy Fellow in the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Currently, I volunteer as Amnesty International USA's Country Specialist for Tanzania and Kenya. My Fulbright Fellowship to Arusha, Tanzania, where I developed my professional level of Swahili, affirmed my desire to work in the development and advocacy field. Previously, I worked as the Development Operations Manager and Refugee Protection Associate for Human Rights First in New York. I am driven to make a sustainable and meaningful impact in current economic and social development policies for United States citizens and refugees alike. I thrive on community connections and listening to the opinions and thoughts of those around me to make meaningful, desired change.I was pleased to have been promoted to work as a Job Developer while employed at Migration & Refugee Services (MRS), where I leveraged community partnerships to help refugees and asylees secure employment. During my time as a Refugee Case Manager with MRS, I worked with hundreds of newly arrived refugees and also secured an ORR grant to open the first Center for Survivors of Torture in Ohio. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail (MaggieHBarnard@gmail.com) or LinkedIn messaging. I'd love to hear more about what you do!
